Every applicant and their parents/carers meet with a member of our leadership team to discuss your application, so that you can answer any queries or concerns. Entry criteria

University Collegiate School admits students each September in years 7, 9, 10 and 12.  We also regularly take new students in all year groups throughout the year if capacity allows. 

Year 12 students are encouraged to attend open events and Register your Interest' in a place using an application form below.  Entry to Sixth Form is subject to students obtaining appropriate grade.  Students will be required to resit Maths and English GCSEs if a level 4 has not been obtained.  Students are encouraged to research Key Stage 5 entry criteria: KS5 entry criteria.


The requirements of the 16-19 Study Programme

How do we meet the requirements of the 16 – 19 study programme?

All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, tailored to each student’s prior attainment and career goals. 

Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial vocational/technical, applied or academic qualification(s) or preparation for employment

  • The University Collegiate School programme consists of a Level 3 programme. The Level 3 programme is composed of a combination of academic, vocational and applied qualifications.  From September 2022 we also offer a Level 2 pathway focused on core subjects and our specialism areas. . 

Young people who do not hold a GCSE grade 4 (reformed grading) or grade C (legacy grading) in maths and/or English are required to continue these subjects as part of their study programme

  • At University Collegiate School Sixth Form all students who do not hold a grade 4 in maths and/or English are provided with a Level 2 pathway from September 2022.


All study programmes should include work experience and non-qualification activities which complement the other elements of the programme and support the student to progress to further or higher education or to employment. The non-qualification activity should develop students’ character, skills, attitudes and confidence.

  • Students in our sixth form are expected to take part in a range of Employer Engagement activities and Project Based Learning which provide them with opportunity to develop a range of life and employment skills. 

  • Students have allocated 1:1 and small group coaching sessions which are used effectively to discuss a range of important issues, aspirations and develop key skills

  • All students have opportunities to take part in leadership committees and voluntary leadership roles (Prefects, Sports Leaders, Admin Assistants) over the course of the academic year

  • Every student in Year 12 takes part in a work experience placement and employer engagement opportunities linked to their curriculum offer.  This provide the opportunity to work with employers who we are developing links with to commission projects for groups to work on over their course of study

  • Drop down days provide opportunities to cover key RSE themes, life skills and visits to higher education providers.

  • In the autumn term students work with a range of local employers who give them the opportunity to have a formal interview and career workshops.

  • All students receive careers and future planning support from UCS staff and our local career teams at Conexxions and GM Higher.

  • All students in year 12 undertake work experience placements with the support of the sixth form team.
