The engineering sector in the UK has 5.7 million employees representing 19% of total UK employment. The growth of the engineering sector is vital to a health vibrant economy.
Engineering skills are in high demand. Research tells that the UK needs 265,000 skilled entrants required annually to meet demand for engineering enterprises through to 2024. It is an exciting and dynamic sector with a number of growth areas including, Big Data, advanced manufacturing, robotics, modern genetics, regenerative medicine, agricultural technologies, advanced materials and energy storage.
UCS aims to help the 51% of 11-16 year olds who are considering a career in engineering. Our Breakthrough project based learning curriculum gives our students an opportunity to engage in wide cross section of engineering projects, building a portfolio of skills that make them highly employable to a growing UK engineering sector and beyond.
Our Health Sciences specialism supports students who aspire to secure careers in either in medicine, as a health practitioner or in the life sciences sector. Like the engineering sector, there is an urgent need for skills in all three areas. In the NHS alone there are over 350 different careers. There is a role for everyone with the right skills and values.
Our Breakthrough project based learning gives our students the opportunity to explore scientific research and learn practical healthcare skills. For example, through the theme of ‘Cardiology’, health science students learn how to carry out A-Z patient assessments, conduct physiological measurements, including ECG traces, and use Early Warning Scores to determine the level of patient care required.
UCS students learn outstanding £10 million facility which includes specialist laboratories for Optometry, Clinical Dentistry, Pharmaceutical Consulting, Medical Simulation, Robotics, Electronics and 3D Printing. Our facilities uniquely inspire and motivate our students to succeed in their studies and propel their careers forward.
