Curriculum Overview

Key Stage 3 (KS3) - Teach Computing Curriculum

The KS3 Teach Computing Curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of computing principles and practical skills. Structured into units for each year group, the curriculum covers a range of key topics. In Year 7, students explore clear messaging in digital media, networks from semaphores to the Internet, programming essentials in Scratch (Parts I and II), modelling data using spreadsheets, and using media to gain support for a cause. Year 8 delves into media with vector graphics, layers of computing systems, developing for the web, representations from clay to silicon, mobile app development, and an introduction to Python programming. By Year 9, students advance to Python programming with sequences of data, media animations, data science, representations going audiovisual, an introduction to cybersecurity, and applying programming skills with physical computing.

Key Stage 4 (KS4) - OCR Creative iMedia

The OCR Creative iMedia content is designed to enable students to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of digital media, including factors that influence product design, the use of media codes and conventions, pre-production planning techniques, legal issues, and considerations for creation, publishing, and distribution. Students will develop learning and practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations. They will design, plan, create, and review digital media products that are fit for purpose, meeting both client and target audience requirements.

Key Stage 4 (KS4) - OCR GCSE Business Studies

Our GCSE in Business equips students with the skills and confidence to explore how different business situations affect decision-making. They develop their understanding of concepts, objectives, and terminology, as well as the impact of contemporary issues on business operations. To be awarded the OCR GCSE (9-1) in Business, students must complete both components: Business 01 and Business 02.

In Business 01, students are introduced to business concepts and issues concerning the activities of a business, exploring the purpose and role of a business from spotting an opportunity to the growth of an established business, and examining the roles of marketing and human resources. Business 02 takes a closer look at the role of operations and finance in business activity, including production processes, quality of goods and services, customer service, and working with suppliers. It also covers finance, including its role, sources, costs, profit and loss, and cash flow. Additionally, students explore how businesses respond to external influences such as ethical and environmental considerations, the economic climate, and globalization, highlighting the interdependent nature of business.

The OCR GCSE Business Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in business concepts, terminology, and practices, preparing them for further education and careers in business.
